The Secret To The Formidable You

Let's reveal the secret right away.
It’s a really simple tactic, but makes a massive difference to your success rate - and the success rate of professional fighters.
It is this: whenever you do a move, whatever that move is, finish with a straight.
“Thanks for that, Fizz, what the heck does that mean?!!” I hear you say.
“The Straight” is any shot that is a straight shot.
In other words it not a hook or an uppercut but a shot that is going straight down the centre line, from you to the head/face of the Bad Guy.
So, no matter what you have done, what shots you take, what combo you use, always try to finish with a straight shot.
For us that means the Palm Heel Strike.
So if you kick someone, finish with a Palm Heel to the face.
Elbow someone and do a few other things, grapple and get away, finish with the Palm Heel to the face.
Now, as you know, most of the time we are not going to move forwards towards a fight in self defence. Our aim is to move away. So let’s not get into the habit of chasing the person to get this shot in. If they’ve moved away and we can run, then just run.
But if they are still there in front of us, in reach, and we’ve taken a shot, taken a few shots, finish with the straight.
It does oh-so-many things for you, from preventing them being able to immediately charge at you, to shocking them, to allowing you to create distance so you can run/step away.
It will help counter them grabbing you. It will help to pre-empt or counter any shot that they might throw at you.
It might intercept their run at you.
And so much more.
It’s such a good tactical thing to do that, honestly, just do it.
As I’ve said, it is a tactic that professional fighters keep in their toolbox, and although we are not doing a ‘fight’ or being ‘professional’ here, it’s a tactic that is super useful for us too, if we find ourselves in the middle of physical conflict.
We don’t (usually) want to stay and fight. We don’t want to engage when we can get away.
But to finish off, when we are close by, finish with a straight.
Just one straight?
Yeah, at least one. More if you want. But at least one.
Finish with a straight.
So for today’s training, we’re going to add that straight shot to all the other things we’ve done, and finish off this Fortification phase very strongly.
REMEMBER TOMORROW IS A REWARD DAY - you can choose to rest after accepting your award, or catchup or refresh if that’s your thing).
But today, get this straight in and finish this Phase powerfully.
TRAINING
I think you now know what the task will be by now!
Please create 7 Self Defence Power Combos using all you know. There is no real right or wrong here. This is your chance to be creative and be yourself. If you need, go over the previous combos you created in The Rise of the Lotus lesson (https://www.power-for-women.org/osalotusrises)
You can now use:
- The Fence
- Movement (back, left, right, forward)
- Palm Heels
- Shouting
- Running
- Getting Angry
- Hammers/Elbows/Push Kicks/Groin Kicks
- FAILURES
YOUR TASK
- 7 different self defence combinations using the tools above (including skills where you fail and have to keep going).
- Practice:
- Either visualise each combo clearly in your head
- Or get up and move through each combo physically
- Or do both - for extra points
Get creative. Be honest with yourself and your skillset. Be real. Go as far as imagining doing these on the street or in your home or a hotel room, if that is something you can handle.
This is about how you might respond in a real situation - and how it might develop. This is your plan.
Here are some previous combos that I’ve extended for you. Feel free to practice these, expand them or change as suits you.
- Start in The Fence → Shout → Push Kick (fails) → Palm Heel (Straight Shot) → Run
- Shout → Fence → Elbows → Straight Shot → Run
- Freeze → Shout → Palm Heels → Run → Fence → Palm Heels → Run + Shout
- Fence → Strike x3 different shots (ending with a straight) → Shout + Run
- Shout → Move back 2 steps → Shout again → Straight Shot → Run
- Fence → Strike of you choice 4X → Move 2 steps right → Shout → Straight Shot → Run + Shout
- Fence → Step back → Strike → Step back → Several strikes ending in a straight → Run
REMEMBER:
It’s your practice. Make the combo shorter or longer so it fits who you are.
Stay powerful.
Build your real-life response plan.

Anything can work to put him off and to catch the attention of a bystander.
REMEMBER THESE THINGS:
An attack will very likely be OVERWHELMING. Taking over your senses as well as your body and bodily functions!
We have to HIT VERY HARD (when we are justified to hit them).
HIT IMMEDIATELY and without hesitation.
