Hey, you have made it to the end of Phase 1. Congratulations!

That’s not a small thing.

You’ve shown up, hopefully you’ve practiced (you have haven’t you?) and you’ve progressed in your head and in your body.

I wasn’t asking for perfection. I was just asking you to show up and practice. Give it a go. Just by doing that you will have improved, I know you will have. Some of you massively and others a little less, but this isn’t a competition and there is no such thing as failure here. It’s all about improving what you have already.

So today, we need to pause a little bit and take in what we’ve actually done so far.

This first part of your training was all about building your foundation - your base layer - a framework of self defence ability that you can work with.

You now have a really strong foundation. You really do now have a layer of protection that you can carry with you everywhere you go. And that’s what I wanted to build very quickly with you. There was no point in giving you random skills and taking three months for you to have any usable and useful skill, like you’d get if you only did martial arts classes for example. I wanted to make sure you have these super important mental and physical skills that would help you massively right away.

So you’ve got a powerful stance. Your mind is starting to get strong along with your ability to strike, to move, to shout, to run and to say: “No! Go AWAY!”

That’s a layer that most people never have. But you do have it now.

And so as your coach, I am going to award you with the first award for this course to acknowledge you’re one step ahead. That award is The Lotus flower.

Why a lotus?

Well, I tell you that just before you get it.

You see, you can’t have it until you’ve earned it and to earn it you have to do the short task below. It’s designed to give you a deeper understanding of what you’ve done, and honestly it’s worth doing as it will seal in what you’ve go so far. Really make it yours.

So next up will be Phase Two. This is fortification of what we’ve done so far. We really need to back up this first layer, this first framework that we have. So were’ going to continue and start to add some serious shots to keep that unwanted person away from you. Then in the phases after we’re going to deal with being followed and grabbed and even cover the positions you could find yourself on the floor.

But you’re not getting those until you’ve earned this first award. So check out today’s short task, and only after you’ve done it are you going to be eligible for the first award.

To earn the Lotus fully - and more importantly, for you to truly own what you’ve learned - please complete today’s short but powerful task.

Grab a pen and paper and using everything you’ve learned so far, create 7 Self Defence Power Combinations.

You can use:

The Fence
Movement (back, left, right, forward)
Palm Heels
Shouting
Running
Getting Angry

YOUR TASK

Write down 7 different self defence combinations using the tools above.
Practice them:

Either visualise each one clearly in your head
Or get up and move through each combo physically
Or do both - for extra points

There are no right answers. Get creative. Be honest. Be real. Even imagine doing these on the street or in your home.

This is about how you might respond in a real situation - and how it might unfold in a split-second. This is your plan. Your power.

Need a head start?

Here are 7 example combos you can borrow or extend:

Start in The Fence → Shout → Strike → Run
Shout → Put up your Fence → Run
Freeze → Shout → Fence → Run → Strike
Fence → Strike x3 → Shout + Run
Shout → Move back 2 steps → Shout again
Fence → Strike → Move 2 steps right → Shout → Strike → Run + Shout
Fence → Step back → Strike → Shout → Run

Get loud. Get gone.

WHEN FINISHED:

You now really do have the mindset and the ability to start defending yourself very effectively.

You own skills that many only ever dream of owning. You have the ability to hit hard, to be unexpected, to be able to fight back and not just fall over.

This is the beginning of a new level of power that you will own for the rest of your life. And that’s why you deserve to be awarded for this.
