OSA Training:Â The Spacewoman Training
Â
Create space. Own space. Stop him. Escape him.
You should have powerful strikes in your arms by now.
Now let's add the legs that get you out of trouble. On a dating side, kicking would have "It's Complicated" as its status.Â
There are SO MANY types of kicks - and they're mostly of no use to us in self defence. The opportunity will just not come up in women's self defence to use them.
Plus they require a tonne of practice to learn before they can become useful.Â
But there are two that are very useful and not too difficult to pick up quick.Â
Today we start with the Push Kick - also known as The Teep  - and itâs all about keeping the bad guy away, making space and escaping while you can.
Video 1:Â Introduction to Real Kicking
First, let's understand the reality of kicks in self defence.
When do they work? When donât they?
Video 2:Â Push Kick Demo & Other Kicks
Hereâs a look at the Push Kick in action - plus a brief overview of a few other kicks.
Weâre not asking you to learn them - this is for context, insight and extra confidence.
Video 3: Push Kick Practice
Let's start with one of the most useful kicks you could ownÂ
Video 4: Power Your Push and Snap
Â
Add real power with your push and snap.
Â
Then try Hafizâs personal hybrid version, blending speed and force for shock, space and escape.
Practice Plan
Drill 1: Precision First
10 reps each leg - slow and controlled
Focus: Lifting your knee, extending with balance and targeting with the ball of your foot or heel
Practice against the air, mitts/pads or bag, or even a wall (gently)!Drill 2: Add Drive
Now add your centre of mass
Feel your hips shift through the strike - not away from it
10 reps per side (and then do it again so you have a total of 20!)Drill 3: Add the Snap
Once you have learned the basic mechanics of the kick, now add some SNAP!This is an explosion.
Drill 4. Practice When comfortable, combine the snap + push into one powerful hybrid.
Alternate between one pushing kick, one snapping, and one somewhere in between. AND DO NOT FORGET YOUR FENCE. That's where your power will come from.Â3 shots:
Push â Snap â Hybrid â Reset/Fence
Bonus
Add SHOUTING - before, during, after the kick.Â
Mix it in to give you added power and authority. Are you going to shout some words or just shout whatever comes to your head? It almost doesn't matter.  JUST DO IT!  đ No Equipment/mitts/pads/bags?
â Shadow kick in front of a mirror
â Use a wall gently to push against at your pace (wear shoes, please!)
