The Fence & Footwork

These 3 short videos build your foundation - and that foundation will amplify every skill you learn after today.

Each one is just over 2 minutes.
Watch. Follow along. Then practice right away.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Video 1: Why The Fence is so effective - and how it protects your space
  • Video 2: How to build your Fence - stance, structure, and strength
  • Video 3: How to move in your Fence - footwork, balance, and directional control

Today’s Practice Plan

After you’ve watched the videos, here’s your assignment:

1. Mirror Time

Stand in front of a mirror and get into your Overt Fence stance.

  • Hold it for 10 seconds, and
  • Ask yourself: “Can I move? Can I resist? Can I strike from here? Where are my hands? Am I ready? Am I protecting my vital organs? Can I be grabbed easily?”

Now do it again - 5 times in total! (Thank you!)

2. Movement Drills

  • Walk forwards and back in your Fence
  • Walk side to side
  • Keep your shape at all times. If you lose your shape, get it back asap.

Remember: Always move the foot in the direction you're heading first.

Do 10 sets of each direction. (Or even more for extra Brownie points!)

This is your foundation for when you’re standing up. Every strike, every escape, every win will begin with this stance.

Why It Matters

Your stance alone can stop an attack.
Footwork decides if you stay on your feet - or not.
This skill will keep you balanced, harder to grab, and far more powerful when you have to hit.

Next Up:

Tomorrow, you’ll make your Fence unshoveable.
We’ll train your reactive balance before we start building your first strikes.

So do this well because your power starts here. Really it does!
