PRACTICE

After you’ve watched the videos, here’s your assignment:

1. Mirror Time

Stand in front of a mirror and get into your Overt Fence stance.

  • Hold it for 10 seconds, and
  • Ask yourself: “Can I move? Can I resist? Can I strike from here? Where are my hands? Am I ready? Am I protecting my vital organs? Can I be grabbed easily?”

Now do it again - 5 times in total please!

2. Movement Drills

  • Walk forwards then back in your Fence
  • Walk 3 steps left then 3 steps right
  • Keep your shape at all times. If you lose your shape, get it back asap. This is even more important than moving your feet!

REMEMBER: Always move the foot in the direction you're heading first. If going forwards, the front foot moves first. Going back, your back foot moves first. Going right, it's your right foot. What do you think it is when you go left?

Do 10 sets of each direction. (Or more for extra Brownie points!)

Why it matters

Your stance alone can stop an attack.
Footwork decides if you stay on your feet - or not.
This skill will keep you balanced, harder to grab, and far more powerful when you have to hit.

Next Up...

Tomorrow, make your Fence unshoveable.
We’ll train your reactive balance before we start building your first strikes.

So do this well because your power starts here. It really does!
