OSA Training: Fly him to the Moon...
Think you know the groin kick? You don't! But now itâs time to own it.
The groin kick is powerful - and dangerous.
That means we use it only when justified. But when we use it - we donât hold back.
However, one point to note is that it is often an opportunistic shot. It's not always available to take. The man expects it and so might be ready or in position to avoid it. He might be on higher ground. He might be sideways. he might have grabbed you and then it becomes difficult to throw the groin kick when in you're in such close proximity.Â
That's the reality of it.
So let's see if we can push the reality back in our favour a little bit shall we?
Today we build a kick that:
- is effective even if he moves forward or backward
- Doesnât rely on precision but increases the chance of connection
- Channels your bodyweight to push through his genitals (into the navel) and make him squeak like a mouse. Â
Most people aim too low.
We want to aim higher - through the groin and into the navel, to collect all the nerves we can.Â

Video 1:Â Groin Kick Reality Check
What makes the groin kick misunderstood - and why most people aim wrong. Hit wrong and you might get nothing.
Video 2: Landing the Groin Kick
Let's massively increase your chances of connecting.
Video 3: Knee Up, Power Up
Activate you knee for precision and power, so you can direct him to the moon.
Video 4:Â Kick Him to Mars
If you do this, you might send him through the clouds, past the moon and onto Mars. (He can't hit you when he's on Mars, right?!)
Practice Plan
- 10 slow kicks per leg to build form and just hit with the right area of your leg
- 10 (individual) kicks per leg, focusing on getting the knee to rise upÂ
- 10 (individual) kicks, each with power (as in video 4 above)
- 10 reps, hitting like you want, but always start and finish in The Fence - The Fence âKick â Fence reset
- Now do that all again, but this time hit with a different part of your leg. (If hitting with your foot before, now hit with the mid shin. Once that is done, hit with the top of the shin or even the knee).Â
Â
Bonus Practice
For Superstars:Â (Repeat 10 times each side).
Fence â Push Kick â Fence â Groin Kick.
Â
Fence â Push Kick â Fence â Palm Heel â Fence â Groin Kick.
Â
Bonus Visualisations
- Visualise him moving, forwards or backwards â adjust kick and hit anywayÂ
- He lunges in â you kick
- He backs off after starting an attack â you kick
- Youâre already in The Fence â you kick when you feel threatened and know you have to do something about it.
Notes
Practice with both legs. If you donât have mitts/pads, then shadow practice. Visualise the move and do it.

Bonus Knowledge
Â
Advanced Groin Kicks:
- The groin kick isnât just for front-on attacks.
- You can use this same motion if youâre behind someone.Â
- Or if theyâre bending forward to grab you - and with a bit of practice, you can even use it on someone who has actually grabbed you. Theyâve grabbed you, you can still get your shin right up there.
- With training, this same kick can even be used to kick upwards into the head or chest if heâs bending forwards or his head is low down. This kick is called a âsnap kickâ in the martial likes, such as karate and is even used to target the hands of an attacker to lessen their ability to hit.Â
- These techniques are more advanced - but learn the foundation and youâll see other opportunities as you learn. Master the basics and the advanced things just fall in place sometimes.
